The Community College of Philadelphia Women’s Volleyball team lost to the Montgomery County Community College Mustangs in three sets, 25-18, 25-15, 25-21, at the Athletics Center on Saturday.

The Lions played a very competitive first set serving four aces. Omaira Gonzalez contributed three aces, while Mahogany Williamson-McCants added another. Annie Ortiz and Ellawyn Marvelous both hit the deck on attempts to save possessions but remained in the game. Despite the effort, miscommunication and errors caused the Lions to lose the first set.

During the second set, the Mustangs jumped out to a big lead, taking advantage of more Lions’ missteps. The Lions attempted a comeback with some strategic shots, even capitalizing on the Mustangs’ errors. Ortiz tipped one ball deep that forced a Mustangs’ error. Ajia Dylmishi served an ace as the Lions fought back; however the Mustangs held on to take the second set.

The Lions started strong with a 6-3 lead in the third set. Sunny Robles and Sofia Arborio combined for three aces. During a rally later in the set, Ortiz blocked one shot, then combined with Onyi Patrick for another to cut the Mustangs’ lead to two. However, the Mustangs completed the sweep after a net violation on the Lions and a spike attempt from Arborio that barely landed out.

The Lions service game was solid throughout, and Williamson-McCants was particularly active with digs, while serving an ace.

Aniyiah Winchester was unavailable for the game.

Postgame recap can be found on the Philadelphia Vanguard Media YouTube channel. Coaches and players were unavailable for comments after the game.

A replay of the game is available on the CCP Athletics YouTube channel.
