Food is available for pickup on Tuesdays and Wednesday between 10:30 a.m. to 3:45 p.m.. The snack rack is funded by the Food Collaborative, made up of community college support services, faculty, and administration. Dedicated to addressing students’ basic needs, providing sources for students to succeed, and come to school nourished, the Food Collaborative understands the importance of a full meal or snack in between class can help students succeed helping with focus and overall performance. Students can be connected to opportunities such as food funds, vouchers, stamps, free meals, and volunteering and advocacy opportunities. Food sovereignty is their mission and goal.
Grady’s Community Garden, located on a beautiful plot of land between 16th and 17th street, Bonnell building and the open parking lot, is a great place to get involved in urban agriculture and learning gardening skills in how to grow your own food. Community members and students are encouraged to join and participate, also providing healthy options that supplement the snack rack. The mission of the Garden is to combat food insecurity within our campus, provide access to fresh produce, and cultivate sustainability and self-sufficiency in the community. Their goal is to eventually have vegetable and smoothie giveaways, potlucks with professors, market days for selling items, and opportunities to socialize over a hot meal. The garden has weekly scheduled hours. To join, you can also go to Sl-12 and ask to sign up to join the Community Garden.
