Hundreds of students took time off their studies to celebrate love and friendship with music and dance. Hosted by the Student Government Association (SGA), the idea was the brainchild of Maria Baez, SGA Treasurer who said her priority was to give the students their money’s worth and plan as many events as she could throughout the semester.
Baez said, “As treasurer, I deal with two budgets. One is for SGA activities, and one is for club activities. SGA would love to hear more from the student body about what they would like our funds to be put towards, whether that is events, initiatives, or products for students.”
She also added that for clubs to access their funds, they should make a funds request using the appropriate form found on the Pride Portal.
Biaz added that students are free to visit the SGA office during office hours posted on the Pride Portal and have their questions answered or bring suggestions.
SGA First Vice President Angie Orozco said it is important for students to connect outside the classroom setting and have some fun.
“We’ve done substantial work behind the scenes and held fun events like The Love and Friendship Day and the cultural attire raffle during Black History Month. We are looking forward to seeing you all at our upcoming events,” she said.
Orozco said her mission was to ensure progress on SGA’s activities and to represent students’ interests.
She also extended her gratitude to all the students who attended the event and those who made the party exciting by creating a multicultural playlist or performing some dance moves at the height of the action. Orozco expressed her gratitude towards SGA
Advisor Jeffrey Markovitz, Student Engagement Director Jenavia Weaver, and Office Administrator Idah Swindle for their continuous support.
Other members of the SGA who were in attendance were SGA Senator Shy Davis, Marketing and Events Secretary Estefania Arriaga Martinez, Recording Secretary Brayan Orozco, and the two newly appointed Senators Makayla Mignake and Danny Emdin. North East Regional Campus Senator Jules Lees was also present.
The event was an opportunity for students to network outside the classroom and have some fun. All students in attendance received their choice of a pink or red rose or carnation. There was also free food and drinks.
The SGA anticipates more events, such as the Blossom Ball, which is even bigger, to be held on April 10th, 2025. Further details on this event will be posted on the Pride Portal.
For more events, students can check regularly on the Pride Portal or visit S1-12 during SGA office hours for more information.
